American Civil War range

Hinton Hunt produced a small American Civil War range, comprising 8 infantry figures, 1 cavalry figure, and 4 gunners each for Union and Confederate sides. Additionally there were limber riders and a driver in the US range (Union), with a limber and a 12 pounder Napoleon field gun.

Thanks to Don who provided many of the photographs of figures in this range.

Hi Clive,

Great to see those ACW figures. I have never seen any before and guess they must be pretty rare.

Do you have any ECW?

Hi Ian

I'm not sure they are that rare. My main source was a large lot of knocked off, recast and metal rotted figures, on most of which I have done some stripping. These won't produce any decent photographs, though I do have some more to post today and a third party source for some more.

On stripping them (in particular figures I didn't recognise) I found a number of converions. For example, some union infantry turned out to be napoleonic prussians with shako carved into kepi - these have been restored to their former colours as additional Landwehr figures.

Additionally there are a number of cavalry made from FN 44 Guard Lancer with separarte arm, where the lance has been convereted into a carbine. The combination of poor figures to start with combined with my low level f painting is not a good one, but I hope to do these as a refurbishment project one day.

I don't think I have any ECW figures at all (I may have one)but again I know where I can get some pictures. I have a few colonials, medievals and Crimean War figures too, all of which will make an appearance in the future.

Regards

Clive

Hi Clive,
I have a number of Hinton Hunt ACW figures that I purchased from Mr. Hinton in the mid-1970's. I would be happy to send you photographs of them to help fill in your catalogue. Where should I send them or post them?

Regards,
Don

Clive,
Missing from your listing of ACW figures is US/4. It is described in the catalogue I received in 1977as: (Mounted) Cavalry Trooper (at attention) in flat topped kepi. I can send you a picture if you'd like.

Regards,
Don

Thanks for your comments.

US 4 is a glitch - I have a picture of this and will post it in a minute.

I'm always pleased to have pictures, especially of early castings. I have finally figured out how to provide an e-mail facility and have put it on the blog - if you look down the right hand side of the page past ther picture of the Carabiniers you will find it.

Regards

Clive
